4rd BALKAN PHYSICS OLYMPIAD 2022
Based on an initiative of the Balkan Physics Union Council taken in 2018, the first edition of a new competition in Physics addressed to the high school students was launched in 2019: the Balkan Physics Olympiad – BPO. The first edition was held in Thessaloniki (Greece) in July 2019.
The BPO4 contest will be held online, on October 7 – 9, 2022 with the leader of each delegation traveling to Cyprus, to carry out the work of the Scientific Committee, whereas the students will be participating online.
The main organizer is the Cyprus Physicists Society in Cyprus. This edition of BPO will also be held under the auspices of the Balkan Physical Union (BPU) and the European Physical Society (EPS). The competition is also supported by the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth and the Physics Department of the University of Cyprus.
THE COMPETITION
The competition will be held online, with the leader of each delegation traveling to Cyprus on October 6 – 10, to carry out the work of the Scientific Committee, whereas the students will be participating online.
DETAILS ON THE ONLINE COMPETITION
Each country will be represented by a team composed by up to 4 high school students, born after January 1st, 2005.
The BPU member countries can officially participate in the contest. Those are: Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. Other countries may also be invited as guest countries.
The contest will consist in a unique test with 4 problems.
IMPORTANT DATES:
July 25th, 2022 –Scientific Committee to be announced.
July 29th, 2022 – Societies to announce if they will take part in BPO4.
September 9th, 2022 – Team leaders and deputy leaders to be announced. Team members’ names and necessary data to be sent to the organizers.
